The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has given Four Acre Health Center on Burnage Avenue the worst possible overall rating.

The inspection took place in November and the report was published in December.

In terms of safety, efficiency and good management of services, the health center was deemed “inadequate”.

Meanwhile, on whether the services are benevolent and responsive, it received a “needs improvement” rating.

This follows an inspection in September, which found the health center to be “inadequate” overall. This happened after the CQC found that “leaders had not demonstrated a full understanding” of how to deliver high quality services throughout the practice, systems were not enabling learning to based on information provided to the service – for example, audits, incidents and complaints – while there were gaps in systems and processes to assess, monitor, mitigate risk and provide clinical governance, and “the communication systems and organizational culture needed to improve”.

The NHS St Helens Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has released a statement following the latest inspection.

A spokesperson said: “Following a recent CQC inspection at Four Acre Health Center, the practice received an inadequate overall rating.

“The practice has already addressed the immediate concerns and has now developed an action plan which demonstrates clear milestones to improve the overall score going forward and CCG is now working closely with the practice to ensure areas recommended development are discussed.

“This action plan will be monitored regularly over the coming weeks to ensure that it is followed and milestones are met. The practice rating will remain in place until the CQC re-inspects.

“While the inspection rating is disappointing and understandably worrisome for patients, the CQC found areas of good practice across population groups, including the practice that received a gold award last year for care of people with learning disabilities by CCG, offering appointments and reviews.

“It was emphasized that the staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to provide effective care, support and treatment and that the practice had worked alongside other local medical practices to administer Covid-19 vaccines. 19 to their patients.

“A targeted inspection took place in November to verify compliance with the warning notice issued and the CQC has confirmed that the practice now complies with this compliance with Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment).

“The practice continues to progress with the integration of new systems and processes to meet the requirements of Regulation 17 (good governance).”

The CQC is the independent regulator of adult health and social care in England.
